TeacherTube

I love conferences. They’re great for meeting people, sharing new ideas, participating in guerrilla advertising for your new edugeekjournal blog … and sneaking a peak at what sites educators are looking at.

As I was listening to a session, I noticed the person in front of me was visiting a site called TeacherTube that looked very much like YouTube. I made a quick note to check it out, and today I explored a bit and found that the site is for instructional video. According to their “About Us” page, TeacherTube, which officially launched on March 6th, …

“provide(s) an online community for sharing instructional videos. We seek to fill a need for a more educationally focused, safe venue for teachers, schools, and home learners. It is a site to provide anytime, anywhere professional development with teachers teaching teachers. As well, it is a site where teachers can post videos designed for students to view in order to learn a concept or skill.”

This is a great example of educators diving into Web 2.0. I fully expect that as word gets out about this site, the collection of videos (which is currently relatively small) will experience explosive growth. Check out the TeacherTube blog for more information.
