Happy New Years folks!! Since Matt has us thinking about the future, I figured I’d post this video I just found. (I love getting glimpses of what might become the future of human computer interface!) This brief video clip demos new technology that combines the Wii with Microsoft’s Surface technology to become very similar to what we saw in Minority Report.
Howdy folks! I’m an Instructional Designer at UT Dallas. I have a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Angelo State University and a Master’s in Computer Education and Cognitive Systems from the University of North Texas. I’ve been working in edtech for 11 years. Hmm… what else? I’m a *huge* fan of that little Irish band called U2, and I’m a bigtime Firefly/Serenity advocate.
Awesome! I am really excited about multi-touch technology. We’re getting closer to being able to view a virtual object in 3D, turn it over in our ‘hands’, and actually feel the weight and texture of it through a haptic glove interface — which could have a great impact on education (as well as 3D modeling, one of my hobbies).
Here are links to some of the Johnny Lee Wii videos that are mentioned in the above clip:

The best part about these experiments is that the researcher provides his software (for free!) on his website: http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/projects/wii/
Looks like Samsung and Hilton have one-upped all of this:
A Wave of Information
The same concept will be appearing in Hilton hotel kiosks, but without the remote – just bare hands. Pretty cool.
